Throughout June, staff and clients at The Deep Business Centre rallied together to help fundraise for a life-saving local charity, raising an incredible £450. The donation, made specifically to Withernsea RNLI Lifeboat Station, was in memory of their former crew member, Steve Medcalf.

Andy Medcalf, Product Manager at Wipro, and one of The Deep Business Centre’s longest resident clients, said:

“I was honoured after The Business Centre team said they wanted to support the RNLI in memory of my brother. They raised a fantastic amount, which will make a real difference to the Withernsea RNLI volunteers and crew members.”

One of the fundraising events hosted was National Bring Your Dog to Work Day, an idea sparked by The Deep Business Centre team as a new and innovative way to raise money for the charity. Though the event is celebrated annually on the 21st June, this year is the first time the team has marked the occasion.

The afternoon saw the Conference Room at The Deep Business Centre converted to a mock awards ceremony space for the pooches, whereby treats and prizes were gifted to the dog with the waggiest tail, most like their owner and more. A great time was had by all clients who took part, with the team from Medical Solicitors commenting that the event was “right up our street”.

In addition to this, a traditional bake sale and raffle were also hosted; clients provided cakes, raffle prizes and other sweet treats to contribute. All donations made from these events and National Bring Your Dog to Work Day helped achieve the final total of £450.

Freya Cross, Head of Business & Corporate at The Deep Business Centre, said:

“It was heart-warming to see just how many clients participated in these events, helping us to fundraise for such a special cause.”

“Thank you to everyone who took part and made a donation. No matter how large or small, it all goes a long way to helping this charity continue their life-saving mission.”

Staff from The Deep Business Centre recently visited the station at Withernsea to personally present the donation to the team.

Sue Waterhouse, Receptionist at The Deep Business Centre, said:

“We really enjoyed meeting all the crew members at the Withernsea RNLI Station, and learning more about the valuable time and effort they all put in to save lives, including the full process from when someone dials 999.”

“It was an honour to be able to present the donation to the RNLI team in person. On behalf of all the staff and clients at The Deep Business Centre, we’d like to say a huge thank you for all that you do.”

Darren Hickey, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Withernsea RNLI Lifeboat Station, said:

“We, as a station, are truly humbled by the support given by The Deep Business Centre. To receive this amount is fantastic and will be used in aid of achieving the RNLI’s mission of saving lives at sea.”
